6ixt9’s Ride 2 Willowmore in the Karoo during February 2025 was a magical Adventure trip. Jean, Rob, Dave, Thys, Jarred and Steffan departed early Friday morning as the day was going to be long. We planned to ride over Gysmanshoek Pass and Rooiberg Pass. Just as well we decided to leave early morning as we did not anticipate a member of our group getting lost and a flat tyre which we could not repair… All part of the Adventure! As the day played out we did not expect the 40 degrees in the mountain valleys either. The cool fresh mountain water pool at Swartberg Backpackers where we stayed over on our first night was an absolute lifesaver!
Saturday morning, and we departed again early to ascend Swartberg Pass. The mesmerising views from the top of Swartberg Pass never disappoints. We enjoyed breakfast in Prince Albert before setting off on a new undiscovered gravel road towards Willowmore. The region is testament to a harsh land where generations have come and gone… only family graveyards and desolate farming structures remain across a large area of the route. But it remains a privilege to explore this part of South Africa on two wheels. Jean also planned a special stage for us gents – 120km circular route at Willowmore. It did not disappoint and we thoroughly enjoyed the extra Adventure – Thanks Jean!
On Sunday we explored the gravel roads between Willowmore and Stilbaai. Down Robinson Pass we turned onto gravel roads twisting through valleys and over hills all the way to Stilbaai via Gourits.
Indeed a spectacular weekend riding with wonderful friends. Thank you Gentlemen – it was magic and we do it soon again!
